TikTok Provides Viewers Authority to Reduce Artificial Intelligence-Made Content in Personal Streams

Users will soon have a fresh option that allows them to reduce the quantity of artificial intelligence-produced videos appearing in their streams. This initiative comes as the company announced that it now features more than 1 billion content made with AI.

Trial and Implementation

The new functionality is undergoing trials over the following weeks before a full-scale launch. This advancement coincides with a rise in content created by AI, driven by emerging video-generation tools.

The Broader AI Trend

It has been noted that approximately one in 10 of the fastest-growing channels on another major platform only show content made by AI. A considerable share of this output is considered “AI slop”, a phrase for substandard, bulk-generated content that is frequently illogical or dreamlike.

Based on user feedback that many people enjoy content created using AI tools, ranging from computer-generated images to science explainers, and we want to offer the community the option to increase or decrease of that, according to their own preferences,” stated a spokesperson.

Scale of AI Content

The platform disclosed that there are currently over a billion videos on its service tagged as AI-generated. In total, in excess of 100 mn pieces of content are submitted to the service every day, making AI-generated material a relatively small portion of its total content library.

Customizing Your Feed

Users will be able to limit or boost the level of AI-generated videos they view by opening the “manage topic” setting in the application and choosing AI-made media. Further subjects that are already be modified under the filter include news, style, aesthetics, and choreography.

AI Disclosure Rules

Its policies oblige creators to label convincing artificially created content, and it forbids malicious fake videos of celebrities or emergencies. Any authentic-looking artificial content that is unmarked can be taken down under its user guidelines.

In addition, the app will now add an AI-generated tag to content created with its own AI tools, or identified by an cross-platform project for recognizing AI-generated material. This step is aimed to help prevent users from attempting to evade the disclosure requirement.

Responsible AI Funding

TikTok is also launching a two million dollar AI literacy fund for experts and organizations to create informative material about using AI responsibly. This program will assist non-profit groups specializing in educating computer science.

Platform Protection

The platform has supported its moderation strategy, during discussion over proposals to lay off hundreds of review team members in Britain. TikTok is set to eliminate 439 jobs in its user protection division in London, with worker representatives and digital protection specialists expressing worry that people are being substituted by automated systems.

A senior executive stated that people-led review would still have a role, but AI can protect employees by filtering out the most graphic content before it has to be seen by staff. The company stated a 76% decrease in shocking and graphic content reviewed by human moderators over the past year due to intervention by its automated systems.

“We think that it’s essential to balance humans and technology to ensure user safety,” the executive stated. “We’ll have people as part of that process, but we further consider it’s highly necessary to reduce exposure to harmful content as rapidly, which is where a significant AI assistance is proving valuable process content quickly.”
